AUSTRALIAN Banking and Finance Magazine has named the IMB as Australia's Building Society of the Year.

After accepting the award from Deputy Opposition Leader Julia Gillard on Sunday, IMB chief executive Wayne Morris said the institution had now won national building society of the year awards for three consecutive years. It was named winner of Money Magazine award in 2005 and 2006.

Wayne attributed the organisation's success to the hard work, dedication and commitment of more than 500 staff throughout NSW and Victoria. He said the 500-strong team was committed to delivering competitively priced products which had once again been recognised by industry peers.

The award follows January's announcement of an increase in half-yearly profits by 11 per cent and total assets exceeding $4.4 billion.

Last week, IMB announced the launch of a $250 million Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities transaction, the second publicly rated small commercial mortgage transaction the IMB had undertaken. Wayne said IMB would stay focused on growing its asset base and striving to keep providing value for members.
